]]> I’m scheduled to audition for “The Voice” in Atlanta which should prove to be a kodak moment in my life.  Making a living sharing music has always been my dream.  Inspiring others along the way has always been my goal.  I remember a time when record labels would send A&R reps all across the country to discover raw talent.  Now the industry looks to reality shows to find new talent.  Whether you agree or disagree with the process this is how things get done.  The days of getting discovered singing on your front porch are long gone.  It’s all about social networking and massive PR.  If you never try, you’ll never know.  And if you say you can’t, you never will.

]]> I’ve come to realize that mirrors don’t lie.  The way you see your reflection in the mirror directly relates to how you’ll view others and the world around you.  Does it make sense to expect others to love and value you, when you don’t love and value yourself?  People can only do to you what you allow them to do.  Tolerating cheating, abuse and blatant disrespect  is totally unacceptable.  You should know that you are loveable and deserving of kind treatment.  The longer I live the more I believe that there is certainly someone for everybody, regardless of your past.  There is never valid justification for abuse.  Learn to respect yourself and others will follow your lead.  Finding closure and healing for the wounds of our past is the foundation in which healthy loving relationships are built.  Wholeness is what we are all looking for, but we don’t always know where or how to find it.  Contentment comes from the inside out and not the outside in.   It all begins and ends with you loving the skin you’re in.  Short or tall, big or small, you’re special, unique and original.  Have some standards and never let them go.  If you’re expected to change just to be accepted by others, then you’re probably barking up the wrong tree.  Be yourself and always patient.  Good things still come to those who wait.

]]> I’m totally blown away by the number of venues across America that have opened their doors to my music.  A very wise man once told me, “don’t ever despise humble beginnings”.  I’ve come a long way and still have a long way to go, but it’s rewarding to witness the fruits of my labor.  I simply love making and sharing music.  I believe life is all about finding something that you’re passionate about, then using that gift to enrich the world.  Remember there are over 7 billion people on Earth, but there’s only one you.  Don’t waste your life living in someone’s shadow.

]]> Creating quality original music with mass appeal is the goal. I’m an artist with varied influences which are evident in my writings. I’ve always wanted to be an artist that could write songs that would move people on an emotional level. I’ve never been good at the “cover tune” thing. No disrespect to those that make a living this way. A musician’s got to do what a musician’s got to do. I’d rather spend my time writing songs that have the potential to rival what’s already out there being covered. Believe it or not, there are many venues worldwide that prefer original music. You can survive doing your own music, but make no mistake about it, it’s an EXTREMELY hard hustle!!! Truthfully, you will need to have your bags packed and ready to go the distance to encounter these die-hard original music fans, but know that they do exist and are waiting on you.

As I walk out my destiny, I’m mindful of treating everyone respectfully and professionally, but lately I’ve found myself having to cut off some folks who failed to understand just how serious my music career is to me. I am a singer/songwriter who is determined to be the very best artist that I can be. Mediocrity isn’t attractive nor an option, just in case you hadn’t heard. You only get one opportunity to make a good “first” impression, so make it count. There are no excuses to why you can’t be the best “YOU” in whatever it is you do.

]]> I recently wrote a song entitled “That One” which deals with falling short of fulfilling one’s purpose in life. Yes, I’m living my dream, but this road I’m traveling is full of slick willies and snakes. You have to be willing to endure all sorts of adversity just to move one step closer to realizing your dream. Sometimes you feel alone and misunderstood, but the truth is you’re never alone. I exist by faith and prayer. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. I, like you, can’t see the future, but continue to believe that “with God” all things are possible. Life is like a marathon. You’ve got to know your pace and stick with it, regardless of what is going on around you. Take all of the negativity in life and use it as fuel for the journey. Remember to always finish what you’ve started and go the distance.

]]> I received an early morning wake up call from a gentleman alerting me to the fact that my car had been vandalized. Now this is the same car I’ve been trying to sell for a minute. I thought it refreshing that someone would take time out to show concern for another. There is hope! I inspected the damage and to my surprise it wasn’t as bad as the gentleman had described. It was only a case of smash and grab. Someone REALLY wanted a battery, so they smashed in the driver’s side window, popped open the hood and stole one. I’m thankful it wasn’t worse. Suggestion, next time just ask. Times are difficult, but even in difficult times we must trust God. I’m glad that I’ve matured enough not to allow such petty things to rattle my cage. The world is full of issues more deserving of my time, energy and emotions. However, I do wonder whether or not this crime was done out of greed or need? God only knows. Thank God for auto insurance which netted me a net profit of $650.00 for my pain and suffering.

]]> I don’t have all the answers, but I trust in the One who does. In life unexpected things do occur that hurt us and leave us directionally challenged at times. In the midst of this season, we must press on even harder than before. God takes no pleasure in quitters. Over the years, I’ve met many people with wonderful visions for their lives, but once they encountered the storms of life, they quickly decided to travel the broader road. Life is a marathon and we must endure until the end. I can’t run your race and you can’t run mine. However, we all MUST finish strong. I’ve oftentimes have expected to receive apples out of life, but instead got lemons. I’ve learned to add sugar to those lemons to make lemonade. God never promised us a rose garden down here on Earth, but He did say that He’d never leave us nor forsake us. At the end of the day, that’s all you need.
